National System for Integral Family Development

The National System for Integral Family Development (; SNDIF or just DIF) is a Mexican public institution of social assistance that focuses on strengthening and developing the welfare of the Mexican families. The institution was founded in 1977 by Carmen Romano, wife of Mexican president José López Portillo and First Lady of Mexico.
The National Director of DIF reports directly to the President of Mexico and the role has traditionally been held by the First Lady, though this link was broken in 2000 when president Vicente Fox, who was unmarried, appointed Ana Teresa Aranda to the post. Local chapters of the DIF report to municipal presidents and governors.
The current President of DIF is First Lady, Angelica Rivera. The National Director is Laura Vargas, wife of Interior Minister, Miguel Osorio Chong.
